这就是 W3C Exploration Interest Group (IG) 的用武之地。
我们不是工作组 (Working Group)。我们不是来定义规范性规范 (Normative Specs) 的。我们是来连接现实世界和标准世界之间的点，并在急于寻找答案之前提出更好的问题。可以把我们看作是 Web 上身份、认证和信任的早期研发实验室。
为什么需要这个小组，为什么是现在？
如果你正在构建 Web 应用，探索它的策略环境，或者只是想让某些东西能够互操作，那么这个小组就适合你。为什么？因为 Web 身份正在变化。 Cookies 正在退出历史舞台。联邦登录流程正在重建。浏览器正在试验新的 API。而监管机构呢？他们也没有停下脚步。
如果我们想要一个能够为真实用户、跨越真实用例的 Web，我们需要更多的人参与进来，他们可以这样说：
“这是生产环境中发生的事情，这是我们仍然不理解的事情。”
这就是 Exploration IG 的目的：找到差距，为分歧腾出空间，突出标准小组尚未优先考虑的用例，并构建可能成为未来工作组章程的桥梁。
我们正在探索什么？
我们没有单一的议程，但以下是我们经常讨论的内容：
- 浏览器实现和 Web 规范之间的技术差距
- 新兴的钱包模型、身份凭证和联邦流程
- 跨越信任框架、行业或司法管辖区的使用案例
- 当多个标准以不同方式解决相同问题时，存在的碎片化风险
- 需要更好技术响应的监管信号
